On beauty parlors and threading
2006.03.28Last Sunday (March 26), I went to a local beauty parlor to accompany my brother to get his hair cut. I never really get my haircut in parlors, due to the fact that I like to wear my hair close to what they call a skinhead, but I frequent the place because my better half gets her hair done there. I don’t have any complaints about the place or the service but what I would like to know is why the hell it costs so much. In the said parlor, a regular haircut costs about PhP 110.00 112.00. Maybe it’s because they shampoo your hair first before cutting it out. Thinking about it though, that must be a very expensive shampoo. I, on the contrary, can get my hair cut for only PhP 50.00 — that’s PhP 30.00 for the haircut and PhP 20.00 as tip for the barber. Applying that logic to parlor rates that would sum up to: Php 30.00 for the haircut, PhP 20.00 for the tip and close to PhP 52.00 for the shampoo. Damn, you can buy a whole bottle of shampoo for about the same price (PhP 52.00) and it can last you for maybe a whole month. But then again, I may be exaggerating so please enlighten me and prove me wrong.

Having been rendered bored by the back-issue magazines in the parlor (why don’t they stock up on FHM or UNO instead of those showbiz mags?), my meandering attention was won by a woman who was moaning like she was being anal-probed by aliens. Much to my amusement, I discovered that she was getting her eye brows threaded. I kind of saw this “beauty” technique in some female-oriented local TV show but it was the first time I witnessed it done actually. It must have hurt like hell because the woman was grimacing in pain and teary-eyed. Such a price to pay to get a few stray brows. But as they say, “no pain, no gain”.

threading doesn’t hurt that much naman ah….or i’ve become oblivious to the pain :D try waxing! :D

I don’t go to beauty parlors for my haircut. They’re not only expensive, they don’t cut your hair there like a good barber does. Sa barbero gihapon ko! Barato na, gwapo pa’g gupit!

In a parlor, you pay for the ‘ambiance’ although I dunno what’s that got to do with your hair. And those gays can be quite mean if you gave them a small tip. That’s why I always go to the neighborhood barbershop… :-)

i also maintain an almost skinhead hairstyle..yeah, i also pay 30 for the haircut and 20 for the tip. Imagine, your tip is 67% of the original price..la lang.. so was the Php 112 haircut worth the visit?
