M.Y.M.P. and a Bamboo fanatic

2006.06.26

MYMPM.Y.M.P. had their concert here last June 24, 2006. I, along with some of my friends, went to watch the show. Upon entering the concert venue I was a little confused whether I was in the right place because, as expected, majority of the audience were high school students. Anyway, I’m not here to talk about that. The last full-length concert I went to was…I can’t remember! Has it been that long already or am I just experiencing one of the many symptoms of aging? I hope that it’s the former.

The concert was okay. As expected from a band who became über famous with a handful of original songs and a truckload of remakes/revivals, they sang mostly the latter. Which was, in a way, an advantage because I found myself singing along to most of what they played. The night was filled with all those melodramatic songs that makes you, well, get melodramatic.

Juris, the lead (female) vocalist of the band, still hasn’t improved much on her showmanship. Unlike other performing artists who try to get the crowd into the music, she just stands there and sings. There’s no doubt that she can sing but sometimes it gets pretty boring seeing her in the same position song after song after song. Well, that’s her style and I can’t do anything about it anyway.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the night.

One of my companions in the said concert above was a Japanese girl. She’s been in the Philippines for a little over a year, as far as I know. Since we were going to an OPM concert, I asked her what local artists she liked listening to. Without hesitation, she admitted that she was a Bamboo fan. She said that she wanted to go back to Manila because it is only there that she can see the band perform as often as she wanted. It was amusing to know that a Japanese could be so caught up with a local band. But then again, Bamboo is a great band so I wouldn’t be surprised if she likes the band.

Well, that’s about all I can tell you what I have done on the weekend.

Mondays are just so effing boring…

June 12 to 18

2006.06.19

Just a recap of my previous week. Nothing interesting here but read on if you want.

June 12 - All of us know that this day was celebrated with the commemoration of our country’s independence day. Which is so effing ironic because it seems that our country is still enslaved by those we sought independence from. Anyway, my friends and I spent it relaxing at a place in Bukidnon where I spent more or less 7 years of my childhood. It was fun and tiring at the same time. It’s a good thing that I didn’t get a relapse of my flu. What was fun about it was that we had a total of 187 pictures of the event. The day ended with a sad note for me though. I got an SMS message that afternoon that my best friend’s father had passed away. God bless his soul.

June 14 - I went to the wake of my best friend’s father. As far as I know, he died of cancer. I couldn’t even recognize the body inside the coffin. I only realized it was him when I looked at the photo. Seeing a dead person always gets thoughts rushing to my head. Thoughts like how he felt during his last seconds on earth or if he was fulfilled with how his life had been. It was evident that he was a very good man. Many came to his wake and gave their last respects that the house was buzzing with people all night long. It got me to thinking, “If I died, would this many people come to pay their last respects to me?”. Well, I guess I will find out when my time comes.

June 15 - It was a local holiday (city’s charter day) here where I live. So my friends and I once again backpacked it and went back to Bukidnon to have a sequel of what we did the last time. More picture taking, more eating and more merry making. Knowing that this would be the last holiday in a long time, we made the best of it. This time, we were 5 pictures shy of the total we had the last time. We were aiming to get 300 pictures but it was just too tiring. Maybe the next time we’d be able to nail 300 or more pictures.

June 17 - Spent the night singing with my friends at a local videoke joint named M2.

June 18 - Went out singing with my friends again at another local videoke joint named Loretos.

The previous week has been, by far, the most event-filled week of my life. I just wish that every week was like it.

A quick post

2006.06.14

I’m posting this just so you’ll know that I am still alive (for those who give a shit about me). That damned flu I had some days ago has finally decided to give up and leave me alone.

Life has been boring lately. I’ve got some sort of useless anxiety stuck up my ass. One is caused by my career and the other, well, I’d like to keep to myself for the meantime.

Doesn’t it just suck that whenever you’re being idle you get so many freakin’ ideas of what to post in your blog but when you go and fire up that browser, log-in to your account, get ready to write, everything just dissolves into oblivion? Yeah, that really sucks. Your blog ends up empty and no new posts materialize.

Time to shut up for me. This is, after all, just a quick post.
